Research Day 9: Nature’s "Cheat Codes" (Biomimicry) 🌿🤖
Good morning, Axelle!
First, an Investor Shout-out for your presentation on the James Webb
Space Telescope (JWST). Seeing how engineers used "Origami" to fit a
massive gold mirror into a tiny rocket was a great example of creative
problem-solving.

💡 Today’s Research Task: Biomimicry – Nature is the Lead Designer
Yesterday, we learned how space telescopes use folding. Today, we look at
Biomimicry (Bio = Life, Mimicry = Copying). This is when humans "flip" a
design from nature to solve a high-tech problem.
The Big Question: "When Japan built their super-fast Shinkansen (Bullet
Train), it was too loud and caused 'tunnel booms.' How did they use a bird
called the Kingfisher to flip the design and make the train faster and
quieter?"
Your Research Protocol:
1.
The Problem: Why was the train making so much noise, and why was that
a problem for the people living near the tracks?
2.
The Observation: What is special about the Kingfisher bird’s beak
when it dives into the water?
3.
The Result: How much faster and more efficient did the train become
after they "flipped" the nose design to look like the bird?
4.
The Founder’s Opinion: Think about our trip to Penang and Johor Bahru.
If you could "copy" one thing from the nature you saw in Malaysia (like a
leaf, a butterfly, or a tree) to create a new invention, what would it be?
