The Dancing Bee: How Bees Talk

Good morning, Axelle! 🐝💃 Buzzzz... today we're exploring the secret language of bees! Did you know that bees can tell each other exactly where to find the best flowers—without saying a single word? They do a special dance that's like GPS for the hive!

The Big Question: How does a bee's waggle dance communicate distance, direction, and quality of a food source?

The Mission: Time to decode the buzz:
1. Learn the dance moves: Research the difference between the round dance and the waggle dance. What does each one signal?
2. Decode the waggle: How does the angle of the dance relate to the sun's position? Why does the duration of the waggle tell the distance?
3. Create your own: Draw a map of your house or garden, then pretend you're a bee showing another bee where the best 'nectar' (like a snack) is. Sketch the dance you would do.

Did you know? Bees also use vibrations and pheromones to share information, and a hive can send thousands of scouts on a single mission! 🐝🗺️

Have fuuuun!!!

Onward and Upward,
Mama & Papa
