The Mystery of the Nazca Lines
Good morning, Axelle! 🗺️✨ Today, we're traveling to the desert plains of Peru to uncover one of the world's greatest archaeological riddles—the Nazca Lines! Huge drawings of animals, plants, and geometric shapes stretch across the ground, but they're only visible from the sky. Who made them, and why?
The Big Question: How and why did ancient people create enormous geoglyphs that can only be seen from above?
The Mission: Let's put on our detective hats:
1. Explore the scale: Find out how big some of these figures are (like the hummingbird or the monkey). Compare them to familiar sizes—how many soccer fields would fit?
2. Theorize the purpose: Why do you think the Nazca people made them? Some ideas: religious rituals, astronomical calendars, or messages to gods. Pick a theory and support it with evidence.
3. Think about the technique: How could they draw straight lines and perfect shapes without flying? Research their methods using simple tools like wooden stakes and cords.
Did you know? Some of the Nazca lines are over 2,000 years old, yet they've survived perfectly because the desert is incredibly dry and windless! 🌵🕵️♀️
Have fuuuun!!!
