The Volcano That Shook the World ๐
Good morning, Axelle! ๐
Some volcanoes are quiet for centuries, then suddenly erupt with a bang that changes history. Today we dive into one of the most famous eruptions ever.
The Big Question: What happened when Mount Tambora erupted in 1815, and how did it affect people thousands of miles away?
The Mission:
1. Find out where Mount Tambora is and how powerful that eruption was (hint: it was heard over 1,200 miles away!).
2. Discover what 'the year without a summer' was โ it happened in 1816 because of the ash and gases Tambora sent into the sky.
3. Draw a simple picture of how a volcano erupts, and label the magma, lava, and ash cloud.
The Science Check: What is the difference between magma and lava? And what is volcanic ash made of?
Did you know? The Tambora eruption made the sky look red and caused snow to fall in June in parts of the Northern Hemisphere! People were freezing in summer.
Have fuuuun!!!
