The Amazing Journey of the Monarch Butterfly 🦋

Good morning, Axelle! 🦋

Imagine flying thousands of miles without a map, just using the sun and the Earth's magnetic field. That's what monarch butterflies do every year!

The Big Question: How do monarch butterflies know where to go on their migration, and why do they travel so far?

The Mission:
1. Trace the monarch's journey from the eastern United States to Mexico – measure the distance in miles.
2. Find out how many generations of butterflies it takes to complete one full cycle of migration.
3. Think about this: What do you think would happen if their resting places in Mexico were destroyed?

The Science Check: What is metamorphosis, and how does a caterpillar become a butterfly? Name the four stages.

Did you know? Monarch butterflies weigh less than a paperclip, yet they can travel up to 3,000 miles! And they use the position of the sun and the Earth's magnetic field to navigate.

Have fuuuun!!!

Onward and Upward,
Mama & Papa
