Good morning, Axelle! Have you ever wondered if unicorns are real? Well, in the ocean, they kind of are! Meet the narwhal, a whale with a long, spiral tusk that looks magical but is actually a tooth!
The Big Question: What is the narwhal's tusk really for?
The Mission: 1) Find out what the tusk is made of and how it grows. 2) Discover the leading theories about its function – is it a sensor, a weapon, or a status symbol? 3) Learn how narwhals survive in the icy Arctic waters and what they eat. 4) Draw a narwhal in its natural habitat and label its tusk.
Did you know? A narwhal's tusk is actually a giant tooth that grows through its lip, and it can be up to 10 feet long! Some narwhals even have two tusks.
