The Northern Lights โ The Sky's Dazzling Canvas ๐โจ
Good morning, Axelle! Have you ever seen photos of the night sky painted with green, red, and purple lights? Those are the Northern Lights, also called the aurora borealis. Today we'll discover the science behind this magic!
The Big Question: What causes the Northern Lights to glow and dance in the sky?
The Mission: 1) Find out which part of the Sun sends charged particles to Earth (hint: solar wind). 2) Learn about Earth's magnetic field and how it guides those particles to the poles. 3) Discover why different colors appear โ what makes green or red? 4) Draw a picture of the aurora as seen from a snowy landscape. Could you ever see it where you live? Check where they occur!
Did you know? The Northern Lights can make sounds like crackling or hissing, but only rarely and very quietly โ scientists are still studying that!
Have fuuuun!!!
Onward and Upward,
Mama & Papa
