The River That Runs Backwards
Good morning, Axelle!
Most rivers flow downhill to the sea. Today's river refuses — twice a day, it turns around.
The Big Question: What makes a river flow backwards?
The Mission:
1. Learn about the Qiantang River tidal bore in China — a wall of water that races upstream.
2. What causes a tidal bore? (Think: Moon, tides, and a funnel-shaped river mouth.)
3. Watch a short video of people surfing a tidal bore. Would you try it?
Did you know? The Qiantang bore can roar louder than a jet engine and has been surfed continuously for over 1,000 years.
Have fuuuun!!!
Onward and Upward,
