The Mountain That Sings
Good morning, Axelle!
Some mountains are climbed. Today's mountain is listened to โ because it hums.
The Big Question: Can a mountain make music?
The Mission:
1. Learn about Krakatoa โ the volcano whose 1883 eruption was heard 4,800 km away, the loudest sound in recorded history.
2. What happened to the sky and sunsets around the world for months afterward?
3. Find out what a volcanic harmonic tremor is โ and why scientists compare it to a musical note.
Did you know? The sound wave from Krakatoa circled the globe three or four times โ and people on ships nearby went deaf instantly.
Have fuuuun!!!
Onward and Upward,
Mama & Papa
