The River That Painted a Desert

Good morning, Axelle!

Today we’re traveling to a place where a river once turned a desert into a giant canvas of color. It’s a landscape so strange it looks like another planet.

The Big Question: How did water and time create the Painted Desert?

The Mission:
1. Find out where the Painted Desert is and what gives it its colors.
2. Learn about the Chinle Formation and its colorful layers.
3. What fossils have been found there?

Did you know? The colors come from minerals like iron and manganese, and they change depending on the light!

Have fuuuun!!!

Onward and Upward,
Mama & Papa
